An emergency roof tarp is a heavy-duty waterproof cover secured over a damaged section of roof to stop water from getting into your home until a permanent repair can be made. It is meant to last days to a few weeks, not months, and is not a substitute for real repair work. Most insurance policies expect you to take reasonable steps like tarping to prevent further damage after a covered loss.
